Valentine’s Day, or single awareness day as I like to call it, was a few days ago and if you’ve been here for a while then you know that I’m single and I like to spend the day indulging in some form of self care. Whether you are single or booed up, Covid no doubt forced you to celebrate Valentine’s Day a little differently this year. That is if you are following social distancing guidelines and exercising a little common sense. I see some of you out in these covid streets but that’s not my business. However, if you’re like me and you’re limiting your exposure as much as possible, keep reading to discover how I create a personal spa-like experience in the comfort (and safety) of my home.
First thing you’ll want to do is create a bit of ambiance. I like to dim the lights and light a few scented candles as well as turn on my essential oil diffuser. I have been using the Healing Solutions brand and some of my favorite oils to use for a spa like experience are their oil blends Calm Body Calm Mind, Zen and Joy. Next up……”hey Alexa, play something relaxing.” I recently discovered the Alexa skill Sleep Jar which plays ambient sounds to help you sleep, relax, meditate or focus.
Now that the mood is set, you’re going to need a few beauty tools. I mentioned my love for both my face steamer and Foreo in my Recap of the 12 Days of Christmas post. This face steamer is hands down one of my most used purchases since the being in quarantine. Because I’m not leaving the house everyday for work, I’m wearing little to no makeup these days and instead I’m focusing more on skincare. And I have found that a face steamer really helps to elevates your skincare routine to the spa facial level. My favorite way to use the steamer is while wearing a face mask. Of course it goes without saying that before steaming you want to start with a freshly washed face. I then apply one of my two favorite masks, either the 2-in-1 Pumpkin Pore Detox Mask and Scrub by Urban Rx or the Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask by Farmacy. Both masks release a warming sensation upon application which lends itself to the spa like experience I want to create at home.
Don’t forget to apply your skin care products down to your neck and décolletage. The skin there is thinner and drier and will show age quicker over time.
After steaming and washing off the mask, I like to apply my skincare using my latest completely unnecessary and self indulgent purchase, the PMD Clean Pro Silver. I know what you’re thinking, wait a minute you just mentioned the Foreo. I did and we will get to that in a moment, just stay with me. I went back and forth about purchasing the PMD, mostly trying to convince myself that there was no need to spend that money when I already own the Foreo Luna. But I was basically lusting after a particular feature of the PMD. I eventually decided to get it for one reason and one reason only, the ActiveWarmth technology, which uses heat therapy combined with SonicGlow. I got it strictly for the purpose of using the warming silver surface to apply some of my oils and serums.
Clinically proven ActiveWarmth™ facial massager allows your skincare to activate by assisting in deeper absorption and effectiveness from the combination of SonicGlow™ and heat. The pure silver plated facial massager is antibacterial and has added anti-aging benefits.
I find that the PMD works best with my face oils and balms like the Sleep Tight Firming Night Balm by Farmacy or the Superberry Hydrate + Glow Oil by Youth to the People. At this point, I’m sure you’re wondering where the Foreo Luna comes into play and why anyone would really need both? Well you probably don’t, and if the Foreo had a warming feature, purchasing the PMD would never have crossed my mind. While the PMD shines when it comes to the ActiveWarmth, there are only two massage modes, basically a low and a high speed which does cause me to prefer the targeted massaging features of the Foreo Luna 3 that you get with the integrated phone app. So after applying my skin hydration with the warmth of the PMD, I follow up by selecting one of the massages on the Foreo app, kick back and finish up with a facial massage using the Foreo Luna 3.
For my initial review of the Luna 3 along with some additional more affordable tools for face massaging take a look at the IGTV video below.
And there you have it, an at home, relaxing facial! Now you may be inclined to sip on a little wine or maybe a glass of bubbly, but don’t. You don’t want to undo all the detoxing benefits of your facial. Trust me, it’s better for you to drink some water or maybe a nice cup of tea and continue relaxing, maybe a little Netflix and chill. Ooh, speaking of Netflix, leave me a comment and let me know what you’ve been binging!
