Hey babes! So I heard that yesterday was World Purple Day! Who even knew there was a day dedicated to my favorite color. Let me just say that I am fully aware that Purple Day is the International Day of Epilepsy and falls on March 26. According to the Epilepsy Society website the mission for Purple day is to share stories and start conversations about epilepsy, alongside raising vital funds. But I am definitely here for any situation that encourages centering your outfit around my favorite color!

I didn’t plan this outfit in honor of World Purple Day, but because purple is my favorite color I tend to have garments of that color in my wardrobe and wear them frequently. Purple is the color I naturally gravitate towards and in my opinion, one that compliments my skin tone. So when I saw these wide leg trousers in this lovely shade of lilac at Lane Bryant, I knew I had to have them.
While I could have easily paired these pants with a complimentary color or even a great denim shirt, I opted to go for a monochromatic look and decided on this deep purple sweater from Old Navy. A little secret about this sweater, it’s from the tall section of the men’s department. Did you know that mens clothing is often of better quality than womens and tends to be less expensive? According to a BuzzFeed article on the topic, it all has to do with patterns and brand budgets.
“Affordable clothing brands usually have an allotted amount of money to spend on menswear and womenswear.” Menswear will usually involve fewer clothing templates (or patterns) because they offer fewer style options.” – Sara Qaddoura, former curator of e-commerce at London-based fashion startup Not Just A Label
If you’re a tall girl with broad shoulders and long arms like me, (aka Statuesque) a stroll through the men’s tall department may be just the ticket!
To bring a bit of the brighter purple up near my face, I’ve added my favorite accessory, you guessed it… a scarf! This scarf was purchased from a vendor in Chinatown during a girls trip to New York City. We hopped off one of those tour buses to do a little shopping. Every time I wear it, I am reminded of the fun time my friends and I had there. Something I’ve started doing on trips is buying myself a small accessory as a momento of the trip instead of the basic trinket souvenirs. I find the experience so much more memorable when I share a story about the item I purchased. Take for example the turquoise earrings I got in a little seaside boutique while visiting Isla Mujeres (Island of Women) during a trip to Mexico. We took a day trip to the island via a catamaran and swam in water that was as turquoise in color as the earrings I purchased… See what I mean?
But let’s get back to the color story at hand shall we. Adding various shades of purple to this outfit also helps me to avoid the “Barney” affect! Trust me, nobody wants that! I figured there was no better outfit with which to carry my purple Coach bag. I’ve mentioned this pebbled leather hobo bag a time or two before. I recently purchased a third color in this particular bag which is my favorite shape and style. The final touch to this ensemble is a neutral shoe. I’ve had this pair from Avenue for years. They are a mocha brown shade with a bit of a plum undertone which makes them a perfect compliment to all this purple.
Well that’s it for now babes. Thanks so much for stopping by my little corner of the internet. I hope you enjoyed this look. Be sure to leave me a comment and let me know what monochromatic looks you’ve been rocking or tell me what color you most enjoy wearing!
