Hello friends, it’s been a while. I hope that you are well and staying safe during this crazy time. Fortunately for me, I was able to return to work after being furloughed earlier during the pandemic. And while I am grateful to continue working from home, it has taken me a little while to get my grove back. And before I knew it, it was Thanksgiving, then Cyber Monday and now I need to find time to decorate the Christmas tree. And on top of all of that, I realized that I never posted my post for wearing white after labor day. So here ya go…
I don’t know about you, but for me, it just doesn’t feel like fall until, well, it feels like fall. Typical of Georgia weather, we can experience multiple seasons in one day. However, for the most part it is finally starting to consistently feel like fall ( I know, I know, it may already feel like winter where you live but just bare with me). So today I’m sharing a few ways you can take some of your summer whites into fall and winter. Yes, we are breaking the age old fashion rule of not wearing white after labor day. Which, side note, actually has to do with white representing a look of leisure for the upper crust of society according to Newsweek. After returning from their summer holiday, the stowing away of their summer whites represented a return to city life. No surprise that Coco Channel was one of the famous women who challenged the trend.
My first tip, and the one I’m using in this look, is to warm up bright whites with earth tones. Not only is this full length duster the perfect fall layering piece in the perfect shade of taupe☺, it will also help save these white culottes from getting dirty! (Yes, I’m that girl who can’t keep white clean to save her life!) I started by topping the white with this animal print in neutral colors. Side note, animal and camo prints in neutral color ways are my new favorite thing. The white and black spots on this Torrid top are accentuated by the white pants. The color match to this duster was a happy coincidence. By the way, this duster by Cuddl Duds is one of the softest thing you will ever wear.
Similar to adding darker earth tones, a soft creamy beige palette will also tone down crisp summer whites. Or you can create a fresh winter white look by layering different shades of white and ecru. It goes without saying that adding chunky knits and sweaters in creamy hues or even cool grays will instantly make your summer whites ready for sweater weather. Keep in mind that white tonal looks create a blank canvas for dark accessories and bold jewelry to shine against.
A quick wardrobe change (ok, I just switched my top ) and I can create a little color blocking situation in classic black and white. Which is totally giving me Coco Chanel vibes…I mean, where are my pearls? I paired both of these looks with my black mules from Torrid (which are currently on sale and a pretty good and affordable dupe for the popular Gucci Princetown mules) but I’m looking forward to pairing these wide legged cropped pants with both knee boots and ankle boots throughout the winter. Also, a long camel coat over this black and white would be fire! I wish I had one. Similar to a monochromatic look, black and white can also provide a stunning background for your accessories, particularly jewelry pieces in silver or gold.
My last tip is to try pairing either metallic or rich jewel tone pieces with your whites to create a stunning holiday look. Imagine these crisp white pants with a bold red sweater for a casual holiday get together (scratch that, maybe cocktails and eggnog over zoom to toast the holidays with your girlfriends). Be sure to let me know if you use any of these tips to take your summer whites into the fall and winter. Happy Holidays!
