At the end of 2018, I added an image of a stack of books to my 2019 vision board to represent the notion that I wanted to get back to reading more books through out the year. A short while later, I joined a book club. The best part of being in a book club is the opportunity to read books that I probably would have never chosen for myself. As the second year of the book club comes to a close (our schedule is October – July) I figure why not share our latest reads with you.
The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coats
The Water Dancer was a very interesting read. Ironically, I read this book right around the time I watched the movie Harriet. I was surprised at the similarities of the magical gift of the two main characters. I personally think this story would have been better without the added mystical powers. But overall a very good story.
The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman
The 5 Love Languages is a must read for everyone. The relationship principles in this book can be applied to all types of relationships, not just intimate ones. Although, there is a series of love language books have been written for children, teenagers even the workplace.
Letter To My Daughter by Maya Anagelou
Letter To My Daughter is my favorite of this bunch and I can’t believe I’d never read it before. Maya Angelou lived a very interesting life. The experiences and people woven into her life makes this book one you will likely want to read more than once.
Educated by Tara Westover
Educated, however had the exact opposite effect on me. This is definitely my least favorite book on the list. Some of the events that take place in this memoir seem quite far-fetched. It is almost unimaginable that she was able to survive most of the incidences in this book.
Get Rich Lucky Bitch: Release Your Money Blocks and Live a First Class Life by Denise Duffield Thomas
Get Rich Lucky Bitch is all about the power of manifestation. If you are interested in manifesting money in your life, and who isn’t, then you may want to give this a read. Let’s not forget that I manifested the book club that lead me to this very book!
The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn
This last one, I’m currently reading. Okay, currently listening to. Audio books count too! I’ve got a lot on my to do list this week and the audio book lets me multi task, don’t judge me. Back to the book. This book took it’s time building the back story, but once the drama got going…. well I’ll have to come back and update this post when I’ve finished listening!☺ But I think this is going to be a thriller that keeps me guessing.
If you are a fan of books, and I’m sure you are, let me know what you’ve got on your book shelf that you think I might be interested in reading. Feel free to reach out with any questions and as always, thanks so much for reading!
