Hello my curlfriends and welcome back to the blog! With all that is going on in our world recently with Black Lives Matter, it is more important than ever to ensure that our black dollars are being used to support black businesses. So I thought I would take this week’s Mane Monday to highlight the black owned brands whose products are currently in my curly hair product stash! You can also find a list of the top 50 black owned hair care brands over on NaturallyCurly.com. So lets get into this!
We may as well get started with my favorite which is Uncle Funky’s Daughter. You guys all know that I am a STAND for their Curly Magic, so much so that I recently purchased the large 32 oz bottle. They were my first natural hair discovery at my very first World Natural Hair Show. Along with the curly magic, I am trying the Thirsty Curls Leave in Curl Revitalizer because I’m on a mission to find the perfect refresher spray. Looking forward to giving this a try. In the past, I’ve tried the Super Curl Moisture Cream and the Good Hair Leave in, but it was honestly so long ago, I can’t remember why I didn’t repurchase them, so I’m considering revisiting other products from this brand. If you are interested in giving this line a try, they offer travel sizes of their best sellers in the Ultimate Curly Girls Kit.
Next up would be my most owned products from a brand, which is Camille Rose Naturals. I’ve got to be honest, their huge product line up is the very reason I have a bit of a love hate relationship with this brand. They have gotten to a point where they have so many products it’s hard to determine what you should get. And for a product junkie like me, that can be dangerous, hence the quantity of products in this photo. Also, there was a special release of products created for Curl Box, three of which were AMAZING, but are not normally available on their website. So what I ended up doing was trying to find other products from the brand that were comparable to those special release items. Really frustrating! My current favs aside from the Curl Maker are the Curlaide Moisture Butter, Lavender Hair Spritzer and the Cocoa Nips & Honey Growth Serum. But don’t misunderstand me, I haven’t been disappointed by any product from this brand.
Next up is Uniqurl, a fairly young brand with a small line up of products that are phenomenal. Developed by a registered nurse, the 4 in 1 Styler and the Aloemint Deep Conditioner are definite must try products. Although, if you are sensitive to smells, I must warn you that the minty scent of the deep conditioner is really strong. I was so in love with the 4 in 1 styler that I also picked up the Curl Forming Custard back in the fall and am look forward to adding it to my battle of the aloe gel stylers. Stay tuned for that!
One brand in my stash that I have yet to try is Qhemet Biologics. What I appreciate most is that Qhemet Biologics is an Ayurvedic hair care brand and I honestly don’t know what has taken me so long to give them a try. These products, along with a few others from the line, were received in yet another Curl Box, which focused on brittle and weak strands. I am most excited to try the Egyptian Wheatgrass Cleansing Tea Shampoo and Castor & Moringa Softening Serum.
Lastly, I’ve grouped together these three brands from which I only prefer a few individual products each. Kinky-Kurly Knot Today, another OG product and still one of my favorite leave ins. The slip on this product is like no other. A close second is the Mielle Organics Leave in Conditioner from their pomegrante & honey line. This one smells delicious and is very reminiscent of the knot today. And two that I seldom find myself reaching for are the Curls Blueberry Bliss Curls Control Jelly and the Lavish Curls Moisturizing Curl Refresher/Leave In. Another refresher spray contender. Although I don’t use this one often, when I do, again, I am never disappointed.
Well that’s its for my product stash, as if that wasn’t enough! While this was helpful for me to be mindful of the products I already own, I hope you will keep this list of products by black owned brands in mind when you shop. As for me, I will only be shopping this stash for the foreseeable future so I can use up this product before it starts expiring.
Thanks so much for reading!
