Earlier this summer, while shopping for a weekend trip to Miami, I decided to check out the summer pieces from the Ava & Viv line at Target and came across the perfect little denim shirt dress. After trying it on and convincing myself that it was just long enough, I became reluctant to leave the store without it. And while it was the perfect little number for a weekend in Miami, I mean lets be honest, no one there was wearing much of anything, I had to come back to reality and figure out how to make this dress work for everyday wear. So I decided to do a bit of layering and wear it as more of a tunic than a dress.
To be honest, my heart is still set on styling this dress over a pair of distressed white denim cutoff shorts, however I’m still searching for the perfect pair. So for my first look I decided to go with this pair of stone colored chino shorts. Personally, I love how this look still shows off the dress while flashing just a hint of the shorts underneath.

And since it paired so well over shorts, I thought why not take this denim on denim trend for a spin. Ok, to be perfectly honest, I doubt either of these pieces count as true denim. The fabrics are light weight and breath well, a big plus for these hot summer days. And let me just say, these smooth comfort stretch skinny jeans from Old Navy are my new BFF! They are available in long length plus sizes that hug every curve while still being amazingly comfortable!

But I didn’t stop there, I figured this dress would also look great left unbuttoned over other pieces. This actually turned out to be my favorite way to wear this dress and looks like I’m in good company, check out how @styledbyreah wore a similar piece to the Curvy Fashionista Style Expo.

And because this dress is sleeveless, I’m already thinking of ways I can wear it under fall and winter pieces without creating that extra bulk in the sleeve.
Be sure to let me know which was your favorite look!
